I just finished the removal and replacement of my starter, and I removed the header and loosened the from mount on exhaust to get the starter bolts out.

You have to take it off the block and free it from the mid pipe but you do not have to take it out of the engine bay

I'm tackling a starter job this weekend on my stock vette. Not looking forward to it.
