Understand your friend's purpose for the car, then the decision on which HB (and associated investment) will be clear. I did the PB 1117SS. I don't want to ever mess with it again (I understand I overspent by $100-so what?). And yes, if in that far, consider performing other mods. The tear down is about 80% of the job.

You never overspent for the balancer.....The balancer is what it is. You only overspent if you had someone else do it.....

I'm going to replace HB my this coming week. My only question concerns the Powerbond PB1117SS. I want to go with this one for the piece of mind and longevity (at least I suppose so) but the specs say the diameter is 7.2" ..... so is this an "under drive" HB ??

If so I'll probably go with Powerbond PB1117N at 7.52" (and might do it anyway). Comments please.

H/b is most definitely a very talked about issue on this forum. I’m curious if anyone has seen a post on this forum (I couldn’t find one) about a stock h/b failing and causing motor damage? I know the potential is there but has anyone actually seen a c5 that had the hb completely fail? (And have pics they can post.)

I don't remember if I've seen pics or not, but I definitely remember people in this forum talking about the HBs coming apart and causing other damage...

Dont mess with it.....probably last ya' 500K miles...........Im sorry. Im just a big proponent of changing the d** thing. Choice is yours. and by the way....that $70 buck balancer.....aint the PB1117N SS. Or anything like it. I wouldnt put a $70 buck ballancer on a $5K, rebuilt title,, piece of junk. No need for the attitude. I asked a legitimate question. So you have any links? I’m curious about mileage, mods, etc of the failed stock h/b’s.

When I bought my car at 84K, it was wobbling pretty bad. Another guy in the club has 135K on his and only a slight wobble......go figure. All I know is that rubber deteriorates so you had better keep a close eye on it. You dont want to be in Bumf*** Egypt when it comes off. As I have posted before, If it comes off at idle, it will probably just rattle around and throw the belt,,,,no biggie. Scratch things up some. Now, if it decides to exit, stage left,, at 6500, that would be bad. Rack is pretty thick, probably just gouge it up some. Rip idler pullys off, hurt the power steering pump, gouge out or break the timing cover, well you get the idea. Ya got insurance?? A tow truck ride home. Now if you can fix the carnage yourself....wont cost that much... Choice is yours. $260, Summit or Jegs...In my opinion,, the best money that you will ever spend.....

Thanks. There are a lot of moving parts in these cars that if they fail can cause damage and the h/b is def one of those parts. I’m not doubting that. I’m just curious if there have been any first hand posts on this forum of someone who had their stock h/b fail, blow the belts, etc., because seeing as how this is such a hot topic on this forum, there has to be several posts over the last 20 years of these failing.

Can't imagine what you think of the stock GM POS balancer since the $70 PB1117N is 10 times as good...

I may start a thread asking who has a stock balancer and what their mileage is vs failed stock balance vs those that installed aftermarket replacement.

Would really like to see the results.

Is this considered a wobble?

No!.. When it starts to wobble, you will see it. That looks good. Just take a look at it once in a while. Put your change in a piggy bank, and when you have enough for a good one, change it and never look back.....

I am also running a Dayco Powerbond PB1117SS with ARP bolt. Best quality for the money.

Thanks. I was able to find the first link, but couldn’t find any others where failure caused damage to other parts. Looks like the second link was just a noise coming from the h/b.

There’s more links of hb failure causing motor damage? Hmm. I guess I’ll keep searching. Thanks.
