I have a Performabuilt Level 2 on the way and am going to be pulling the stock A4 to send back as a core. When sending back a core A4 transmission, is there a way to drain most of the fluid while it is still on the car? I'm just trying to avoid the mess! Thanks
not that I know of ??? I always set the trans with the input shaft down into a 5 gallon pail overnite ?? and still would still not get it all drained !!
Congrats on the built transmission. I love autos and like my A4 but the weak points on the stock tranny scare me. The stock reaction shell case is known to crack, or splines rip out and lose all forward gears. Also the forward piston seals swell/shrink, starving fluid to the 3/4 clutch packs and burning them thus losing 3rd and 4th gear. A built transmission would eschew those worries.
I know two people personally who have had this happen, in trucks granted, but one a V6 S10 and one a V8 1500.
Anyways, the valve body holds a lot of fluid. But dropping that might be more than you're looking to do. Good luck with it

Thanks Pounder, I had seen pictures of people doing that but wasn't sure if that was the 'accepted' method. Performabuilt told me to be sure it is dang near empty and then to bag it multiple times because UPS or FedEx will halt shipment if it leaks and it's then my responsibility. Should I think about bringing it to a shop to flush out or would a couple hefty bags and heavy duty shipping saran wrap probably be good? It will be packed back in Performabuilts molded foam case, I just don't want to overlook something.
