you need to follow the instructions included with your catch can. that is the only way to be sure of how it is to be plumbed.
if your can did not come with directions ask the manufacturer.
if your manufacturer cannot tell you how it should be installed then you need to find a new manufacturer.
I see these posts from time to time regarding "catch cans". My question is what is their purpose and what do they do...
TIA...
They help reduce the amount of oil vapor that gets pulled through the PCV system and deposited into the intake manifold and combustion chamber. The catch can condenses the vapor back into oil and captures it in a chamber that can be drained.
Good info here - didn't watch the videos yet but is there any benefit / need to use one with a SuperCharged Engine? (PD type like LSA or Maggie)
I would think that a little oil in there might make things spin happy? I'm under the impression that they catch 'just' a little oil... Right?
Kinda new to this so be gentile. Do I even NEED a PCV with a PD boosted engine? Why / why not?
TIA...
You want an air-oil separator (catch can) much more on a forced induction engine than a standard engine.
A little bit of oil in the intake will NOT "help things spin happy." If there was supposed to be oil in the system, the manufacturer would have put oil in the system. In fact, the bearings are lubricated. Rotors and turbines are not. A little bit of oil gunks things up as it sticks and burns, or it seeps into where it's not supposed to go.
