No, not 800lbs of extra amps and subs.

Background: Bought a Z06 that has an aftermarket receiver and amp powering who knows what in the doors. It sounds like trash, the receiver is difficult to use or even see, and I have no idea what's been chopped up, cut out, or replaced. I think the aftermarket amp is probably the only part of the current setup I would even consider keeping.

Which brings me to my questions. Is the stock stereo decent and worth putting back in-I would have to purchase at least the receiver and likely the door twiddlers and subs. Are there other components to the stock system other than the stock amps? Z06 cars only came with door speakers, right?

I don't mind replacing the factory stuff with quality aftermarket parts, but what does that look like? Rewiring the speakers? Just a wiring harness for the factory head unit? Does it tie into the BCM or anything like that? Does anyone have a diagram of the factory BOSE setup on a Z06?

Any and all advice is welcome.

Checked that out, seems like most of the links are dead. Haven't read though the entire thing, but that doesn't bode well. I'll look in greater depth later when I have more time.

This is a sensitive subject and it's likely going to escalate into hot controversy as with religion, politics, best oil, best oil filter, etc

That being said IMO, it all depends on what you want to do and what makes you happy. Definitely, a factor to consider would be, as you mentioned, the degree of butchering or care with which the current installation was done.

Let me try to answer some of your questions:

These are C5 OEM speakers sizes
  • 4 main channels:
    • Front - 3½"
    • Rear:
      • Coupe - 6½"
      • FRC/Z06/Convertible - 5¼"
  • Door-mounted powered subwoofers - 8"

The C5 OEM Bose system's 4 main channels are directly driven by the headunit's built-in 4-channel amp. In addition to that, each door has an 8" subwoofer directly driven by a dedicated amp that is mounted right besides it.

Although it was written taking into account an existing OEM system that hasn't been disturbed, which is not your case, this Post might help give you a better overall understanding of things, so you can make your decision. Click here.
