Having an issue my my AC on my 04. I have the electronic controls. AC is nice and cold when stopped but as soon as I start moving the temp goes warmer. Read the codes on the DIC and there are none. The AC is charged properly and the belt does not appear to be slipping. When driving it will sometimes get cold but does not stay cold. Any ideas as to what's wrong.
How do you KNOW the system is properly charged ??...when was it checked last ??...I see your not far from me...if you want to swing by tomorrow after 4 pm or so I'll be around...I'll be in Howell during the day helping a Forum member with his C6 and if you want to stop by I'll bring my gauges and some other stuff with me...let me know !!...and maybe your system may be overcharged !!
Sounds JUST like a charge issue. Take C5 DIAGs offer for assistance. If its just a little low, you may get by with just a top off. but, the real answer is to vacuum out the system and do a full recharge. DO NOT forget to add some more compressor oil if you recharge. An oil charge is inexpensive and can save your compressor if it low. Any extra oil gets stored in the receiver dryer.
Thanks for the offer Rob. I pm'ed you. Great suggestions Bill. I measured the low side pressure with a gauge this Spring. I believe it was around 30 psi. I'll measure it again tonight when I get home.
Phil, I got it and responded back...you really just need to hook up the low side initially after the car has been sitting for a bit engine off and everything equalizes...low side pressure should be fairly close to outside air temperature...30 is kind of borderline if engine running AC on...these are the pressures for my 2001 !!...and remember the bigger the spread between the high and low side pressures the better !!

What gauge do you have?? Id like to buy one so i can check pressure...

I have a Kozyvacu kit...comes with gauges and vacuum pump...also good to have a leak detector !!...the only thing I don’t have is a recovery machine but maybe down the road !!
So after doing the door calibration by removing fuse I got two codes on the DIC. They were B0361h and B0441h. Tried looking this up seems like it has something to do with the driver side actuator doors. The 04 is supposed to have an improved system. Is a tech2 the only way to troubleshoot this.

They are “history” codes so I would clear them and see if they come back !!
Cleared the codes. When they are read they come up with the h. Which is kinda weird. Maybe it does not run the actuator test if the code set. So it's always a history code. I also noticed that with the AC off there is a temperature differential between the driver and passenger registers. I think the driver side actuator is toast and will be replacing it soon. Just have to find one.
If the air temp is cold at life but goes up while driving, I doubt it from the temp actuators. I'm not saying theyre good or bad, just that they shouldn't be moving All that much just due to driving. I'd be looking for poor condenser/radiator cooling, failing expansion valve or an under/over charge issue.
Do you have LT headers on your car ? If so it is a commom problem that with LT headers the A/C line on the pass side touches or is too close to the exhaust tubes-- A simple fix is to bend the A/C lines further away from the exhaust tubes At leasy 1/4 tp 1/2 " away------you can also insolate the A/C lines with some heat wrap---I had this problem with my 98 after installing LT headers Once i bend the A/C tubes away it worked perfectly all the time
So I visited Rob and he put some AC pressure gauges on the car and he looked at the actuator data with his scanner. The AC charge was slightly low. Initially the air coming from the drivers side vents was noticeably warmer than the passenger vents. Rob added freon and the air coming from the vents became very close to the same temperature. We then looked at the actuator data. You could see that the position data for the drivers side was lazy as the temperature dial was moved. It took awhile before the position data settled to a final reading. So it appears that the door is working properly but the position sensor is not reading properly. This explains intermittent nature of the codes. So I'll leave this alone for now since the AC is cold again. Rob is a great guy and very knowledgeable. Rob thank you for helping me out with this.
You're very welcome Phil !!..hey Guys, Phil (Pdbrains) worked in Aerospace on the Space Shuttle...Holy S$$it !!....this guy is SUPER knowledgeable in electrical/electronics and we look forward to your expertise here on the Forum !!!....OH, I'll look at that HVAC circuit for those DTC's and we'll work on that next !!...STAY COOL...AC wise !!
Rob,,
Phil may have worked on the Space Shuttle but, you FIXED his C5. You are AMAZING! Well done my friend You are the DIAGNOSTIC MASTER of the forum!
Phil,, Thank you for all the work you did on such a fantastic USA program!

Bill,
THANKS but I'm really just scratching the surface with this diagnostic stuff...I have a whole LOT MORE to learn and I tell people you DON"T learn this stuff by turning wrenches...and you know that too !!...and Phil THANK YOU for your service to our country...I was and still am a "NASA Nut" at heart...LOL !!!
