I was looking at Time Sert videos and this interesting video came up. Check it out. Its a little long but interesting. It compares several inserts against each other::

Okay I got the time sert kit, drilled out the hole and I now have a question with the tap for anyone who has done this before. It’s on the shallow head bolt. So the instructions say to line up the groove in the tap closest to the threads to the top of the bushing. When I insert the tap, the groove goes below the top of the bushing. I called time sert and they said that’s supposed to happen or it’s okay if it happens. I’m not for sure where to start the tap at though

What do you mean where to start the tap? There should be two lines on the tap. One low, closest to the cutting end, and one closest to the shank end. You will just tap the hole basically as far as the tap will go, but the groove will line up or go ever so slightly past the top of the drill bushing.

Then you will undo the complete fixture, blow the hole out with compressed air, brake clean, acetone, and air again (my method).. and then put loctite on the insert and a touch of oil on the insert tool, and run the insert in until the shallow line is even with the block deck surface. Let the tool and insert sit in there for about 30 seconds to a minute, then unthread the tool.

Did you drill/cut the hole with the spacer on the cutter below the locking collar... please tell me you did...

The groove closest to the threads, which is what I’m supposed to line up with the top bushing when it’s done, is already below the bushing before I even start.

Yes lol. Definitely did. But that is almost what it seems like. Time sert said it is fine and explained what to do but I want to make sure I got it 100%. I didn’t quite follow what he was saying.

I would honestly need to see a picture.

For the top outside holes, 35mm thread depth, place the fixture down, insert the drill bushing, make sure it is concentric, tighten plate down. Take cutting tool, slide the spacer over it up to the locking collar, cut the hole till the spacer hits the drill bushing.

Then tap the hole.. If you cut everything right, then just put the tap in and it is going to stop where it stops.. It is a blind hole so it can only go so far..

The previous message is exactly what I did. I have two different kits actually, but you use them together and I have all of that stuff. One kit has the bits and taps, the other has the precision plate and bolts and stop collar.

Oh boy I’m too stressed out over this. Got the kit used and taps were switched up, even though I’ve checked 3 times to make sure everything was in order lol. Just had the wrong tap lined up and the grooves were way off. I’m good now until the next hiccup lol. Thanks for you help
