Welp taking off a head to swap to 317s in my stock ls1 and pulled the threads out with the bolt. I’ve researched this and it’s been posted before but no one has seemed to follow up on the success of the route they took.
Time sert makes a kit for the M11x2.0 to replace the threads but it is quite expensive for a one time use and no shops or dealerships want to touch it and I don’t blame them.
Also heard off drilling and inserting a helicoil with a bigger thread than the M11 but almost impossible to find a bolt to match length and TTY and head.
The next option is 1/2 head studs that I’m aware of.
If anyone has been through this and had success with one of these options or even another option, please let me know. Big pain in the butt and I was super cautious and careful with them and still ended up here.
That’s probably what I’ll do. I called 20 dealerships around me, about 10 have the correct time sert kit that is also used for northstars but as soon as I say corvette, they won’t even look at it. I just don’t understand. I’ll break down and buy the kit lol
I would be willing to loan my kit out to you. Send me 500 over paypal and I will ship the kit to you. You use it, I will give you one month to complete what you need to do and then you send it back. When you send it back, I will refund you 300 dollars.
Also let me give you a word of advice. Once all holes are clean and the threads are chased. Run a stud/bolt into them one by one. If you cannot easily hand thread them into the hole, you will want to time sert it. I ended up doing all 20 holes in my block.
A 10 pack of time serts on Amazon is 40 dollars. I would advise buying 2 sets. Time Sert P/N 112030

We’re the rear ones close to the cowl a pain? That’s the one I’m having issues with

They are honestly not that bad. You will find that actually drilling/cutting the new hole is better to do by hand (ratchet and a 3/8 square socket) . Trying to get a drill or anything in some spots can be cumbersome.
Alright gotcha. Well thank you guys for the help. I appreciate the offer and I might take you up on that. First I’m going to try the local dealership with the kit, maybe I can put a deposit down and borrow it. I’m wanting it done ASAP when I have time to work on it.

Just lemme know. The northstar kit will not work on a Gen 3 LS engine btw, so if that is all they have, do not use that kit.
