So im getting ready to install my supercharger soon, and was wondering if its worth adding the rear steam pipe? Is this worth doing on a street car? Thanks
[QUOTE=Pounder;1600345844]yes, the heads trap air in the back, reduce coolant flow !!!![/QUOTE
sounds like a flaw from gm, I'm used to working on old school iron blocks but that steam pipe should never exist.
From my understanding it is due to the tilt of the engine and the way the coolant flows in from below the highest part of the engine instead of from the top like the old SBC did. I connected mine front and rear with single crossovers.
I would and did when I swapped my intake. While there are conflicting opinions out there, it costs very little to be on the safe side and maintain as close to the original design as possible. With SC, probably more of a reason based on failures of (is it the #7 cylinder?).
I installed the cross over on my 02Z when I did the heads cam install. Used a front steam cross over pipe flipped around. There is suppose to be a GM LS truck block with a rear cross over that works like a champ!
When I installed my SC I decided to install the stock crossover pipe that came with the 97-2000s. I bought mine used from the forum...I cleaned it up and installed it...While you have the intake off you might as well install an oil sender relocation kit. I figured it made sense.
The 97-00 steam port crossover will not work under a FAST intake and is not direct fit under a LS6 intake. I believe some have modified LS6 intakes to use the 97-00 steam port crossover. The link in my post above shows Bill's version and the truck option both of which only require routing hoses, splicing into existing hoses, and do not require modifying the manifold.

it also is lower than the the head ports so it still is not ideal ?????? (air will go to highest point)

Correct.....I modified my LS6 intake which was very simple...It does require a little extra work, but can be done and many have done it. I cannot speak for the FAST intake. I was just give the OP another option over the aftermarket steam pipes. I was looking into those at one point, but decided on keeping it more stock looking...He cannot go wrong with any solution as something may be better then plugging the rear ports up....
