I have a 2001 Corvette C5. I’m getting a weird loud noise from the engine area when I start it up after I let it sit for a few hours or more. This noise goes away after I drive it for about 5 minutes. I’m confused because at first I thought it could be a pulley or the belt making noise but it sounds like it’s coming from the engine area. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

We will need more details in order to make any suggestions. What does the noise sound like? Where in the engine bay is it generally coming from? My first thought was a lifter that bled out, but if the noise occurs after sitting for a only a few hours then I doubt that’s it.
If its not a ticking noise it could be one of the front end accessories like water pump, alternator, power steering pump, air pump, AC compressor or idlers.
You could remove the belt and spin each by hand. Or maybe start the engine. That could help you isolate where the noise is coming from
I may have the same issue. It's intermittent and does not always happen. Mine sounds like a loud hum when started cold. It goes away in about a min or so. I have a stethoscope that has a probe on it but I never have it when the problem happens. I replaced the alternator with a remanufactured AC Delco one and I suspect it is from that area. I hope to catch it when it happens and if it is the alternator, I have a warranty for the part.
Since it only happens when cold and goes away when hot I suspect a bearing of some sort.

Sounds alot like your AIR pump is failing---The AIR pump is on only while the engine is warming up then never comes on again-------It may be stuck on all the time as well
To test ight area I would UNPLUG the pigtails that go to the AIR pump It is located under the driver's side front fennder/headlight---There may be 1-2 pigtails unplug all of them---You nay get a check engine light but at least you'll be able to see the noise goes away---If this fixes the noise report back and we can tell you what do do next to get rid of any codes-- The AIR system is prone to failure and does nt affect power or driveabilty Only a smog device
