Driving home from work today and suddenly my gas gauge dropped from just above half tank to empty and a warning “check gauges” came on. I know I had plenty of gas. The only thing I did this tank is added Techron to my tank. When I got home I turned off my car and restarted it. The gauges all completed the function test, including the gas gauge, but then it dropped back to empty. Any thoughts?
code is for fuel level sensor 2 circuit performance, both past (H) and present (C). I think that is the same thing that happened to mine. The passenger fuel level sensor is malfunctioning. Techron may o may not do the trick. There are numerous threads here about the same thing.

i reset the code and all is fine. What does the sensor measure? Fuel level?
It will also do this when gas does not transfer from the passenger side tank to the drivers side tank. You know when you run out of gas and it only takes 12 gallons.

cleared code.....no problems since. I’m not banking on anything! My tank was full as I believe when I last filled my tank it was the normal 15 gallons or so. I’m hoping it happened to have something to do with the Techron. Anyone else with a thought or some insight.
Also look at the gasoline you are using. I ended up going to Shell to stop my "Gas Gauge" problem. Occasionally, I add some gas when I cannot make it to a Shell station and at about 3/8th tank, it will drop to Zero. Since I know it will occasionally happen again, I keep my eye on miles to empty gauge.

I was searching the internet and older links came up to similar issues pretty much saying the same thing you just did. They also said to add another bottle of treatment. 👍👍👍
Typical problem with these cars. Whenever I get below a quarter tank and start the car it will register empty and then slowly creep up to the correct level in about 10 minutes. I tried Techron but that didn’t help. Fuel level sending unit most likely is the issue.

yes, mine dropped from just over a half tank to empty while driving. Got home, reset code and all is fine. What is odd is this is the first time I added Techron to my tank this week.

i would say it’s just a coincidence. Some people say that the gas causes some corrosion at a certain level and therefore the error occurs. My car sat for several years without being driven too much so I’m guessing the level was consistently just below quarter. Perhaps your car is more often than not at half tank.

you absolutely correct, my car is usually below 3/4 and more closer to a 1/2 tank.
If this happens again, run the car until you have less then 1/4 of a tank and add the Techron fuel system treatment before filling back up, so the treated gas will transfer to the passenger side tank. I have experienced this several times even thou I always use premium chevron gas which contains Techron and it always corrects the problem for extended periods of time.

thanks. I will definitely give this a try! I’ll run it down to about 1/8 tank and then add the Techron.
Quick question.....in SW Florida I am surrounded by Racetrack, 7-11 and Speedway gas stations. In assuming they don’t have Techron in the fuel. What are your thoughts on adding the small bottles of Techron (treats 12G) to a tank every so often. Will it help at all with keeping injectors and sensors clean or is it still harmful to the tank. I figured the Techron may be diluted enough to be the same as fueling with the same fuel that already has Techron mixed in.

sulfur deposits on the fuel card is most likely the problem...Techron dissolves the sulfur deposits...
Get the concentrated bottle of Techron instead of the cheaper version. Not many people on this forum are aware that Marvel Mystery Oil is also a good cleaner, lubricant and works even better than Techron removing sulfur deposits. I switch between the two to get the best benefits of both.
