I’m in the process of swapping rear diffs on my Z06. I got just the rear cradle dropped down on it tonight. Has anyone on here successfully swapped rear diffs without pulling the entire tranny and diff. I’m gonna try and lower the trans down as far as she’ll go and start removing the nuts and bolts holding the diff on. Just wondering if it can be done this way, if it can’t I’ll just pull the tranny. Can the trans be pulled with the “H” pipe and mufflers still attached? It looks like it can, I just hate removing stuff that I absolutely don’t have too. Thanks.
Make sure you loosen the air intake up front because when you lower the rear and trans it will want to pull out,If I remember I took off the passenger side cover on the diff and pulled out the ring gear assembly and I was able to take the diff case off,I couldn't get it low enough to clear that hump.
You can only lower all that so far anyways. 10-15% I believe is what the stick on the torque tube says? Anyways there is no way you will pull the diff with exhaust in the way or not removing the tunnel plate which will need to take the exhaust out if it is long tubes etc I believe.
Well I ended up removing the exhaust and tunnel plate, just pulled the tranny and diff out together. Got her all back together now and all is well. Thanks!
