Keep water pump or return
My water pump arrived with minor damage. The seller didn't place any protection on one side of the packaging and the inlet poked through and is slightly out of shape. I'm assuming this isn't a big deal since its at the tip. What I have no clue about is how the inlet piece sits inside of the water pump housing. Is there anything I should be worried about from this piece taking a direct hit? I'd be mad as fk to finish the cooling system and this thing is leaking from day one, especially considering it cost about $270.

This was the ACDelco 89018052 kit (pump,t-stat, gasket) for the 05-08 C6 which I've read is a better alternative to the C5 pump.
$270 was the cheapest I could find. Most of the local stores were in the high 300/low 400 range.

The barb (where its bent) keeps the hose from sliding off. (assuming there is a tight clamp on it). The small deformation you show tain't nothing to worry about.
The flat area where the clamp sits is the sealing surface.
- It must be smooth and no scratches
- A guy could use a thin smearing of silicon to fill a scratch if needed. (I've done it on old pumps and it works fine for yrs)
- It needs to be round. *ESPECIALLY* for constant tension hose clamps like many OEM's use. The worm gear clamps can deform a little but they get loose over time.
The metal pipe is press fit into the castings bore and retains it and seals due to that press fit and surface finish of both parts. Sometimes the MFG will use a sealant in the bore (when there is either too light a PF or excessive porosity)
IMO.. with the small amount of deformation shown... no worries. I'd use it.
Not only could I write a book on WP's... I actually provided engineering design data for fords internal design giude back in the 90s.

I see so many stories of pumps failing right out of the box or with very little miles on them that I decided to not to take the risk.
