Hello, I have code P4010 on my '98 C5. The air pump is turning on and off, as it should. However, when I disconnect the main vacuum line up by the alternator, when the pump runs, there is no noticeable flow or pressure from the pump. I have decide to buy a new pump, but here is my problem. There seem to be plenty of pumps on the market for the 2000-20004 C5, but none for my 1998. Will the 2000-2004 pump work? Can I modify something to make it work? If not, does anyone have any leads on a pump for a 1998? Thanks so much.
AIR issues can be very troublesome especially on a car 22 YO---Often people will spend $100's and $100's with no results
IF you live in a no smog state best best would be to disable it (unplug the pigtails on the pump)
If you get a check engine light then you must have a tuner permanently delete all the AIR codes
Actually same goes if you live in a smog state Do the same as I said The AIR system is a VISUAL inspection only --- as long as they see it installed they won't know that it has been disabled and the codes were deleted permanently and they will pass it
Disabling the AIR system will have no ill affects on your car's performance--as it only runs briefly when the eng is 1st started
Thanks. Any advice on who I should contact to disable the codes?
YES there are several mail order tuners here on the forum --- research them Average cost is only like $150 for a mailorder tune Just tell them what you need done and what your eng mods are and what you need deleted and your codes you need deleted
If your pump runs. Maybe you can try to swap out # 40 Micro Relay – AIR Solenoid with one of the same size. The relay is in the fuse panel under the hood.
Thank you Bigdad for the feedback. The solenoid relay #40 did turn out to be the culprit, and the fog light relay turned it into a $0 fix, since my car didn't come with fog lights. However, before reading your post, I removed the pump from the car and broke open the plastic housing. The housing is packed with foam (filtering?) from the factory and the foam had started breaking down, deteriorating, and was clogging up the inlet. I just removed the foam, cleaned it all up, RTV'd the housing and reassembled it. When I re-installed it I realized that the primary problem was the #40 relay. Now it is blowing like crazy for first time in a long time. Even if that relay had been working, i doubt it would have been blowing enough air with the inlet all clogged with that foam. Thanks again for the help with this.
My 1998 went out about 3 years ago, some parts places online wanted $500 for remanufactured, so I crossed referenced what other GM cars used the same model in the 90's and found a 1994 Firebird at a Pick a Part used that same model, Went there, easy to remove, the location was easy to get to, walked out and it only cost $35. Still working today.

No, just some sealant. Gently pry the plastic lock tabs up and then slowly wedge screw drivers between the plastic housing and the motor base. I borrowed a third hand from a friend.
I removed the pump from my 125,0000 mile '98 because the check engine light was on for it, it was filled with yellow water as seen in the photo. All the foam inside was shot, the motor was seized and the solenoild valve was rusted closed. If the AIR codes are permanently deleted and the pump eliminated can the small tube on the exhaust manifolds also be eliminated along with the check valves and the manifold ports capped? All the inspectors around here care about is if the check engine light is on or not, they don't look for missing AIR parts.
First off thanks for the great information. Our 98 C5's secondary air pump quit working setting the P0410 code. Cleared the code but it would quickly come back on. Removed the hose on the driver's side to the check valve. Started it. No air coming out. Swapped the air pump solenoid relay with the fog light one. Started it. Lots of air out of the hose to the check valve now. Listened for the air pump. It was running. After a short time it shut off. Cleared the code. The check engine light did not come back on. I have until May 2023 to get it straightened out. It sat and ran in the shop for about ten minutes tonight. The light would have come back on by now. Guess we'll go on a road test with it tomorrow. It's dark out and raining in Mesa Az currently. Again thanks to all who share their expertise and knowledge on this great site. Since my wife never uses the fog lights the repair cost nothing. The next time I'm at the boneyard I'll grab a relay.
Finding a Used or New Secondart Air pump for a 1995 C5 Corvette?
Does anyone know where I can purchase a used or new secondary air pump? My car did not pass smog testing in CA since air pump is not engaging- Technician said it only clicks when activated. Anyway to repair an old stuck air pump?
thanks for reply None found at Ebay, Amazon or this site.

So you revived another old thread, on top of reviving another old thread where you received assistance.
I found a company, BZ rebuilders in Canoga Park, CA that refurbished & re- conditions all types of air smog pumps, alternators, etc.

Goods new, after removing air pump, cleaning contacts, spraying inlet with Electric contact DW 40 and then adding 8 Oz of Seafoam to 1/2 full gastank, spraying seafood into large sir pump hose followed by regular DW40 spray - a big puff of black smoke left exhaust x 2 minutes, air pump kicked on x 2 minutes with cold start and no Engine light x 40 miles snd 4 restarts- finger crossed!
If recurs, my last step will be removing intake manifold & replacing the AV 56 Air Intake Valve on the passengers side - That's a bear.
