Default Ballast Resistor?

My 99 FRC started cutting off on me at the track a few weekends ago then left me stranded on the way home. While working to diagnose the issue I realized that the car runs normal with key in the start position but dies when the key is released. That seems to indicate a bad ballast resistor but I'm guessing that it's not as easy to fix as it was on the older cars. Can someone please shed some light on this issue for me? Any other ideas as to what the problem might be? I've been told that a faulty starter solenoid could also be the culprit. Thanks in advance guys!

The ignition switch -- the electrical switch side -- is known to cause a number of problems, and there are a number of threads on how to either replace or disassemble and clean. Might be worth a shot.

Hey redzg and thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I have already replaced the ignition switch and that didn't solve the issue. This car is becoming the bane of my existence lol.
