Is there a GM tech on here or is there a link with access to one?
You would be better off finding better info on this site than contacting a GM Tech...what’s your concern ??????...you are not going to find a link to a Tech...go to a GM dealership if that is what you really want to do and talk to the friendly service manager.

I’ve asked several different questions pointed at the lighting of the instrument cluster when the door is opened and after the car is started - day light hours. My instrument cluster does not light up - all fuses are good - instrument cluster lights up as it should when marker / headlights are turned on.
I know my car is not alone with this issue - learned this from other members on here - but no correction solutions. My car has been a garage queen all it’s life - rarely seeing less than sunny weather, and only has 38,000 miles. My electrical abilities are limited, but I wonder if the issue is in the circuit board behind the instrument cluster. If that’s the case what my chances of finding a vendor that can repair it. When I had a ‘94 it developed a similar problem that was caused by the photo cell and there’s a vendor on our forum Batee.com that makes repairs on C4, but I checked with them and they don’t work on C5, 6 instrument clusters. So any help / ideas would be appreciated.
Yeah...the only things I think of that are left are fluorescent bulbs and the power supply in the IPC or wiring within in IPC. See pictures: 1 fluorescent bulb on each side and the power supply in on the back (silver box).

Prob a fuse or dim lights are a good sign the alt or battery is connected secure . I would guess the alt is bad . Pull the battery while the car is running .
Lets not forget there’s a **** to adjust that ambient lighting as well could be your the dial noise is failed or failing

“Pull the battery while the engine is running” ??....NO, NO and HELL NO !!...this isn’t your 1969 Camaro !!...you’ll damage the electrical system for sure !!

Just to clarify. Is this a correct summary of the problem?:

Ive never seen any electrical non sense occur unhooking the ground while the car was running to ensure I have a good alt ....Thankyou....whether it was a old school small block or a modern car it all worked the same ...be sure to shut car off reconnect it complete drive cycle ....
Sure I could see if someone arcs it accidentally but it’s the risk I am willing to take each and every time I see some dim lights as those readers and machines are not accurate..either a belt system is loose or a bad alt causes dim lights if all that checks out I would look at the ambient adjusting **** and then move on to the ambient light sensors ...most likely the problem would be in that area unless your had a serious windshield leak or just soaked your dash in water ....lights just don’t all go at once ...

IPC illumination correctly works with
Parking Lights ON
Headlights ON
IPC doesn't light up
With DRL
When doors are opened
To openly clarify the light settings can be done ..these lights do not appear during light as ambient switches sensors detect light rays for illumination.

In a modern car full of sensitive electronic equipment, the battery should never be disconnected while the engine is running.
The alternator provides a 3-phase full-wave rectified output, as can be seen below (green trace in bottom graph):
The battery acts as a capacitor to "smooth" it out. When the battery is disconnected, the filtering effect is lost and the "wavy" output plus any surge or spike that may occur is passed to all circuits, which could result in damages.
And u haven’t given us one video of what’s actually happening ....if u could make a detailed explanation video and host that up and we could further get u somewhere
It might be stupid but a connection could have been loose have u tried Disconnect all harnesses re attach and re try the unit with power ? Can u power the cluster via outside ? Surely that will explain if the load differs in or outside of from the main power source .
