Keep getting a "Pull key, Wait 10 seconds" message.
Just wanted to find out if this is usually caused by something. It happens on a '97 6-speed car. Everytime I get into the car it says this. I do as it says and it runs fine afterwards. Any help would be appreciated.
That's the message that C5ers get shortly before the steering column refuses to unlock .. more or less permanently. Normally followed by a flatbed trip to the dealer for repair. If you've already installed a column lock bypass you should be ok ... if not, it may be time to do so.
I believe this message is caused by the car not "reading" the key resistor correctly. Try cleaning the resistor pellet on the key, or try the other key and see if that helps.

Also try cleaning the contacts (a little alchohol) in the key slot.
This message does not necessarily mean you have a problem with column lock. The "Service Column Lock" message is the more disturbing one. :iagree:
This happened to me for about one month before the steering column locked, then I got caught far from home in a small parking garage. It was a real pain. I'd have your car serviced NOW, rather than later.
:(
I recommend listening to the C5 owners who had this happen to them. Tow truck are our enemy! Column lock can ruin two or three days if your stuck in Podunckville Do you really want someone at the 'fillin station' messing with your C5? :reddevil :reddevil
Before you get sucked off into flaming icon land, consider that your problem might be as simple as just needing to clean the resistor pellet in the key.

Worked for me. I had the same message back in May or June. Aftercleaning the key, I have never had the problem since.
I knew by the title of this post you must be new to the forum  Sorry, but this problem is so prevalent around here you wouldnt believe it. Column lock
