Default Base c6 diff into C5 Z06

Long story short, my C5Z diff has bad gear whine... Before I pull the diff to get it rebuilt I am thinking through putting a C6 diff into the car(I know, its a more expensive avenue than simply getting my 3 rib rebuilt).

What I see is the C6 base diff has a 27 spline input. The C5 Z06 T56 has a 27 spline output. If I got a C6 rear tail housing from an 06-07 base car, will the trans and diff match up or is 27 spline not equal to 27 spline in this case?

Obviously I need the rear cradle, offset mounts, c6 spring, etc... to make all this work, that stuff is easy to find.

Would love to go to a C6Z06 rear diff, but they are HARD to find, plus then I have to have the trans gone through to go to the 30 spline output shaft and thats added cost I dont know I want to do right now...

If I dont have to touch my T56(outside of swapping the tail housing), I think I could do the swap for about $1000 above the cost of the diff(ebay a rear cradle/spring, tail housing, rkt offset diff mounts). Im seeing base C6 3.42 manual diffs for about 1000 bucks or so. A rebuild on my C5 3 rib diff is about 1000-1100 depending on if it needs any bearings or just needs gears(wont know till its open and inspected).

I don’t see the logic in it... A lot of energy, $$$, and time on the conversion. Then installing a used C6 differential, luck of the draw if that is without issues. If it was me, I would rebuild the old one (maybe gear change to 3.90 if the gear set is gone).

Well the logic would be get halfway to a C6Z06 differential, which I dont have the money for the full setup right now...

I got confirmation that what I was thinking above would work with no mods to the trans except changing to the 06-07 tail housing... but that piece is also extremely had to find anymore.

So I believe my plan is to just rebuild what I have and maybe beef up the internals a little bit. The rebuilder I have talked to has given me plenty of options from a basic gear setup and new seals at a minimum to building the whole shebang with a wavetrac. Im leaning towards doing gears, lsd clutches, and a 300m long side output shaft. He said spending a bit on the long side output shaft would be higher priority for him than a c6z pinion support or the short side output shaft...if I am trying to save money on the rebuild. I didnt want to put to much into this rear end.

talk to Bret (blownbluez06). he's done a ton of these & builds some of the conversion parts, so he could tell you what all you can & can't do.
