I just put on some chromed thin-spoke wheels and new tires. However, when I put on the chromed wheel center caps, they snapped on but ALL of them are loose and floppy. I plan on using a dab of RTV on the small latches but was wondering if this is normal. Also, they are made of plastic; is that normal?
I bought a set of thin spoke repros (18x10.5. 18x9.5) from Xtreme, and noticed that one of the caps was much deeper than the other three. The deep cap was loose when I snapped in onto the wheel, while the others were tight. Maybe you have four of the deep ones?
Mine are aftermarket. I didn't know that GM made chrome ones; I thought theirs were just polished like the wheels. A couple of dabs of clear RTV on each wheel has fixed/patched this problem.
Hi,
The caps from West Coast Corvettes rattled on my '02. I took them off and bent the tabs outward after heating them with a heat gun. Hold a little pressure on the tab as you heat it and you will feel it yield then hold it in place as it cools. They have not rattled since.
Good luck,
Steve
