Can anyone confirm a 97-99 torque tube from an automatic will fit a 2000 m/y auto?
Thanks
I believe they are physically the same. But from what I've read here, the tubes on the late 2000 models were upgraded with better rubber "donuts" and bearings. Dont know if you're running stock engine, or mod? But going to an earlier style tube may, or may not be a downgrade, depending on when your 2000 was built in the model year......
Yes, a complete automatic torque tube will swap into any year automatic car.
Over the years it changed from the rear bellhousing and bearing carrier being bolted onto the rear of the tube to a 1-piece design with the bellhousing welded on and a big snap ring holding in the bearing carrier. Still, the automatic ones used the same size couplers through all years.
What auto has a snap ring? I've been into Powerglides, TH350's and 700R4's and they were all bolted together.
I know Ford uses a huge snap ring somewhere inside the trans. We've built test stands for them for years, and the snap rings they use to hold some of the newer transmissions guts in place are like 7 inches in diameter, and mighty strong. Thought the GM trans used similar snap rings.
