Default ECM Rebuild

Hey all, about two months ago I was driving down the road and my 97 just started sputtering and then died. I was able to get it restarted a few times, but then it finally shut off for good. The car has about 900 miles on the new LQ9 that I swapped into it. I've replaced the crank position sensor, oil pressure sensor, cam sensor, ignition switch, and checked all of the fuses/relays. I finally broke down and took the car to a shop and they believe the issue is a bad ECM. It looks like at some point there was a battery leak that severely corroded the case of the ECM. For what it's worth, I've tested fuel pressure and tested the injectors with a noid light... we have fuel...but there is no spark.

Does anyone still rebuild the ECM's for the 97's? From what I've seen they seems like GM made a change in 98 or 99 so the 97's have a very specific ECM. The service number on the unit is: 16232148

Ideally, I'd like to get mine rebuilt. But if anyone knows of any for sale or a different solution...it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like Feabay has 2 of them. Have you tried vettenuts.net?

I'd like to go with the rebuilt route first, if that's an option. Also, does anyone test them?

I would NOT replace the PCM because your shop “believes” the PCM is bad !!...you really fired the parts canon on this one !!...so what did you do to diagnose your getting no spark ??...since you have injector pulse we can assume the coil packs are being powered since the injectors and coil packs share the same fuse...did you check both grounds at each coil pack ??..did you check the control wire at each coil pack ??...it’s really a 0-5 volt square wave trigger and you won’t see this without a scope...you can check out a YouTube video on doing a coil pack functional check below...I’m not sure of the body grounds on your new engine but you should do a little more research on the PCM pin outs before you condemn the PCM...if you’re using the PCM from your 97 on this new engine you really have to check each circuit to see what’s powering what...find yourself a good diagnostic shop before replacing the computer if you can’t diagnose it yourself.
