Hi everyone,
What is the maximum transmission fluid temperature allowable? Last summer when at the drag strip my transmission fluid temp got up to 208 degrees. I was wondering if that is too high and I should invest in a transmission cooler. What do you guys think?
Driving through the twisties and shifting manually, I've seen 220. Under relaxed normal conditions 180 is about average for me. Since heat is enemy #1 for an automatic, I plan on getting a deep pan and/or oil cooler. It's cheap insurance against a big expense down the road.
Mine won't trigger a warning until it gets to 270.
I've never seen mine go over 210!
That was on a road course (see sig). As best as I can tell, it seems to be around 205 normally.
On the Z06, there is no trans fluid display until you exceed 270. After that, it will stay on the DIC, even if the key is switched off. Once you cycle off the display, it won't come back on, if the temp is below 270.
Weird setup, I can't imagine why they just didn't make it a regular display setting.
I think your temperature will tend to run higher with a higher stall converter also your outside temp will have an affect. I hit 212 in stop and go freeway driving, as the traffic flow picked up, my temp went down. So far the temp have ranged from 185 -212, just depends.
When I was NA with mods, mine hit 258ish once running threes races one right after another. I think that was the start of my tranny taking a dump. A couple of hits from the 300hp Fogger was the nail in the coffin :D
