Default Air conditioning issue 98

I took the car for a ride today and the A/C is blowing very warm air. Ran the codes, they are:

U1064 - Loss of communication with BCM

U1096 - Loss of communication with IPC

U1255 - Serial Data Line Malfunction

U1160 - Loss of. communication with LDCM

I am not mechanical at all so what I’m looking for is an idea of what I’m looking at so a shop doesn’t take me for a ride. I was hoping it just needed Freon but with 4 codes......not looking so good I’m afraid....Thanks for your help.

Additional dumb question.....how do I access the fuse panel in the passenger footwell?

Do these DTC’s have an “H” or “C” after them ??... these are either history or current codes..these are U codes which are communication codes...if the car is running OK right now I’d clear them and just worry about the AC...does the AC clutch engage when the AC is turned on ??...this issue can be a couple of things..,the fuse panel is behind the panel with 2 latches where your passenger would put their feet...open the latches and remove the panel...fuse panel is circled in picture..remove the center screw and take off the fuse panel cover !!

The codes have an H. But this is a new sudden problem. The car is running fine. I’m not sure what you mean about the AC clutch.
Is this a sound it makes when you turn it on? If so I’ll have to check that out and tell you.

Thanks for the visual for the panel. A great help! Thank you!

Suggest taking it to a reputable shop that does A/C work and have them test the system. Hopefully you will just need a recharge in the A/C system.

When you engage the AC you should hear a click from the AC compressor...do you hear that ??... if not there are multiple things that can cause this.

I'm not hearing a click. I hear only a blower or fan come on.

Yes, I will end up doing that. I’m just hoping to have some real information about what’s wrong and an idea how much it will cost. Thanks.

To hear the click better, stand at the front passenger side of the car and have someone inside the car turn on the ac. The compressor is below the thermostat on the front passenger side of the car. It has the small belt going to it. Check to see if that belt is turning and the clutch is clicking. After that it will be a refrigerant pressure issue likely.

The belt will always turn. The compressor has an electric clutch that engages when all is right in the system. If the OP takes a flashlight, and looks closely, he'll see the belt/pulley freewheeling. The clutch will engage, and quickly disengage if it is low on refrigerant. Look more towards the center of the freewheeling pulley. You'll know when it's engaged because the compressor will spin, and when it stops spinning, it is disengaged. As C5diag said, you'll need to try to dig a little deeper.....

Didn't want to confuse the guy with relays and solenoids just yet. As he seemed to not understand the compressor.

No, I have a friend who is very knowledgeable with cars. He suggested I get a can of Freon with a gauge to see if that was the problem. He said the pressure was very high, "in the red". The compressor did not go on, etc.

If the pressure is high why would you want to put more Freon in ???...too much is as bad as not enough !!

No, you misunderstand. We didn’t know the pressure was too high until hooking it up to the gauge on the Freon can.
(Bought the Freon thinking we might be low on Freon. Turns out the gauge told us about the high pressure.)

That autozone freon can only hooks to the low pressure side. The compressor should pull that down when the clutch kicks in. The high and low side would start to equalize with the compressor off. With a charged system and no running compressor I would expect to see a high reading on the low side, like you did. Does that sound right? There is a pressure sensor in the system. Dont know if its analog or digital, but that gives the computer the reading and the clutch pulls in based on that. Havent done the system on a corvette anyway, but thats the general idea. The clutch de energizes when the pressure on the low side reaches below a certain point, and energizes when the pressure on the low side is above a certain point. At least I think thats right.
