I can't figure out how this auto-climate control works! I can't crack the code. I set it on heat, it turns the A/C on one time, and turns the Defrost on another. It switches to different settings at others, and this is on the manual setting. Help!!!
The A/C will always come on with the heat to remove the humidity.
:iagree: ...also if in auto setting AC will come on until temp drops to 32* F.
I've had some success in holding heating with no AC light when I shift to manual control, basic heating mode (no window defrost icon), but humidity can build up a bit over time.
Mine does the same thing, even in manual mode. I found if I switch to outside air vs. recirculate (the manual switches) I can hit the A/C button and the light goes off.
In manual mode, the a/c will always come on when the defrost mode is selected. Other than that, you should be able to shut the a/c off in all other manual modes.
If you have memory, the HVAC will set itself to what the setting was when you turned off the car. I've had heat blow out one side and cold AC out the other. The factory said that was impossible, but I know of others that had that happen also. Also, if you turn the temp control all the way one way, then try to go the other way, it can confuse the controller and it will take a few minutes to recognize what you really want. If I just leave it on automatic and leave it along except for a little temp change, it seems to work fine. Hope this helps.
Many factors are involved such as outside temp, cabin temp etc.... and even direct sunshine exposure.
Even if the A/C light is on, it does not mean that the AC compressor is always on.
I used to break my head too about the AC algorithm but now I set the system to automatic, dial in my preferred driver and passenger temperature and forget about it. Works like a charm and no issues.
I've never had a lack of understanding of any device, ever.........except this auto climate system!!! It seems like it's never right, except when it's hot and I put it on Deep Freeze.
But, barring my personal problems with it, does this sound right? When I go to the auto mode, it blows to the feet & defrost until the car warms up and then automatically switches to feet & dash mode?
But, on a day like today in DC...cold rain....I'll have it on 75 and then begin to feel cool air blowing about. So I crank it up to 79, and it begins to run me out with heat.
I loved the simple system in my FRC....you could adjust the air temp mix to "just right" and it would stay there until you wanted it a touch warmer or cooler. Easy and effective.
I set mine at 75 in the colder months and 72 in the warmer ones. I find it works great and really like it. It is not intuitive so there are in between times that an adjustment up or down is needed. No big deal. It works as well as my wife's Lexus. The one feature that would make it better for me would be a dash only setting.
The hardtop is great, hot or cold, ac on or off, def on or off, that is it, easy. The Z0-6 on the other hand is nuts. I don't know what I am telling it to do, and I don't know what it is doing. Makes me feel like one of those people who can't set the clock on a VCR.

:iagree: My first FRC had the manual controls and they were just great. This FRC has the dual zone and I can't stand it :smash: for all the same reasons mentioned above.
I don't understand the complication. I just set it (at 73) and forget about it. The climate control computer then takes over and will determine if heat or cooled air is needed. As a result, the compressor may or may not be activated depending upon the outside temperature.
I set it and forget it and it keeps the temp where I want it. When set on Auto the blower will come on a little strong but then slows when the temp is right. My truck and my wife's Explorer are a pain - when the outside temp changes you have to adjust the temp control - not on the Vette. :iagree:

Yep, yep, yep........that's exactly how I feel. I *know* the auto/dual zone system must be okay.....but I can't seem to get the feel for making it just right. Sometimes 73 is fine, other times I'm freezing or sweating my 'nads off. Unless it's dead cold or hotter than the Amazon outside, I can't get it set to where I'm comfortable. And I know that it's me, not the system that's at fault, but that doesn't make me any happier with it. Gimme my old-fashioned "single zone" system!!!
