Hey Guys, I purchased 1999 FRC 2 months ago. It ran, shifted perfect when I bought it. 3 weeks later 3rd gear grinded a few times. Had dealership change the tranny fluid….Few days later my shifter got stuck in 4th (easy normal driving). Pulled over. Got it to release by forcing it out and drove it home. Brought it back to dealership, they said it needs a new tranny, they put correct fluids in…... Since then, shifting into 3rd quickly it grinds. Granny shifting or rev matching it’s fine. Down shifting into 3rd it always grinds. Once in awhile shifting hard from 3rd to 4th it grinds…..about a week ago it locked up in 2nd gear for a quick second during normal driving……it should be noted I bought new shifter bushings and replaced the old ones.”lubed up the shifter components as well and did a shifter re alignment. It did not help the grinding….now lately, it has been locking up in 3rd or 4th….today my shifter will not go into 4th gear at all. It locks up in 3rd typically then will release but again, cannot get into 4th.
what are the thoughts? I’m assuming rebuild is in order. It just boggles my mind it went from shifting perfect for weeks without hard driving to grinding to then locking up in gears.
One of your stamped “keys” is sheared and is jamming up the works. I had the same thing happen to me back in 2003. Your transmission will need to come apart to repair it.
