2004 vert A4. When I got the car, passenger window was inop for several weeks. I tried slamming the door a few times and even took off the little cover by the door handle and delivered some focused whacks to it as described by another poster. Nada. Then, one day it mysteriously started working. Up, down, up … everything was right in the world again … until it wasn’t. Just as randomly as it started working, it stopped again (both times failed when in the up position). That was a couple of weeks ago. Today, it started working again.
So, what do you think it may be? Loose connection, bad spot on the motor? Has anyone experienced this behavior and solved it?
I’m sure a few members have experienced this so yes it can be a wiring or motor issue…you will need for it to not work and then do some detective work !!
The wack method you described worked for me 3/4 years ago on my 04 Vert and never had another problem. I 'exercise' the passenger window regularity and leave about an inch open space between the glass and the top rubber molding. My electrical engineering neighbor says electric motors can develop 'dead' spots if not used.
I had the same thing happening on my car. Give it whack and it would start working again. I thought I might just live with it like that but I came across someone selling a NIB window regulator for cheap so I changed it out. No problems since.
Well, I had already ordered a regulator motor assembly before it fixed itself the first time. So, I still have the parts to replace it if I choose to do so. I was just hoping there might be a loose connection in the wiring that would explain the intermittent behavior.
