My folks new to them 02 Vert Will not respond to the shifter moving…drive, neutral or reverse. Nothing happens…engine is running fine.
We just picked it up on Saturday from the seller….did not get driven much in the last 8 years…maybe after our drive home (hwy) the cable gave up? We can’t move the car either out of the garage….is my diagnosis correct? The clip for the shifter cable might haven given up? Any way to get it into neutral? Is this a common problem as the C5 ages?
Yes, it is common. You can reach under the car and move it manually. Dorman sells bushings to repair the cable. IIRC, Dorman 14057 is the part #
When you say reach under the car and move manually….what does that mean? I can move the cable? Or put into neutral? Does the car have to be jacked up to reach?

Thanks in advance! 🙏
Same thing happened to me...i just got another cable with the bushings already pressed in the ends...had the dealership put it in...was too hard to do on my back under the car jacked up...took an hour and it was not easy...well worth letting them do it on a lift...
I bought the cable from chevy parts dept wholesale...the part number for the cable for my 2004 Vert was GM10352529
may be the same for your 2002...
do not just buy the bushings and try to press them in the old cable...they never hold good like the originals and you will be getting stuck again a lot sooner than with a new cable...
Just my .02
I put a cat back exhaust on my car this spring. Since I had the H-pipe off anyway, I took the four billion little screws out of the tunnel panel and ordered and installed a new cable. I will have to say, even with all the stuff out of the way it is still a bit of a chore. I took my time and am glad I did it. If you are not real savvy with these cars, I would let the dealer do it. Like the guys previously said, you can carefully jack it up and reach up on the transmission and click it twice to get it to neutral so you can get it pulled up on the tilt-back. Sometimes, the cable is hard to get. My friend had his running and jacked it up and had the wife in there holding the brake while he put it in gear and he drove it to the stealer. I would make sure she likes you. My fear factor gets in the way. LOL. Ken

First thing is make sure it’s the bushing at the rear that came apart, that’s the usual problem but not always the issue. If it is you can buy a generic bushing kit at any automotive store that has a few sizes in the package. I did my neighbors car without removing the exhaust. It was a little tight but manageable.
