my check engine light came on while on my way to work this morning.
i just came from the parking structure and read the codes.
it seem it has to do with the air pump, to cut down on the emissions during start up.
is it ok to drive like this? will it do any damage? do i need a flatbed to take her to the dealer?...
sorry my first engine check light encounter and im a little freaked out!
You can drive with the air pump not working, its job is to pump air in the cats to light them off earlier. It wont hurt anything unless the pump is stuck on, you can usually hear it running if thats the case..
You should still take it to the dealer. You don't wanna be jacking with this all the time. And since you live in Cali, it will probably mess with your emissions.
The reasons you got this code is one of the following:
The right side AIR check valve isn’t working.
Carbon build-up in the right exhaust manifold where the air pipe is connected.
There is a problem with the hoses and/or pipes leading to the right side exhaust manifold.
Most likely it is the check valve sticking. If it is stuck closed then you’ll get the code. Keep in mind that if the check valve is stuck open then you probably won’t get the code but the exhaust heat flowing back though the pipes and hoses may damage the AIR components.
By removing the two bolts that connect the right side AIR pipe to the manifold will allow you to inspect the passage for blockage.
You can check the hoses and pipes to make sure they are all connected and not damaged. You can also remove the hose from the check valve when the engine is cold and upon start up you should be able to feel air coming from the hose. No air means a restriction or blockage in the pipes or hoses leading to the check valve.
