Could be a number of things...did you open the hood and look a little closer ? Pretty difficult for anyone to tell with so little info...
Where is the noise coming from? Take a long screwdriver and touch it to the valve cover on start up on that side. See what you can hear. These engines are famous for cold start piston slap, which isn't really a big deal, but it could also be a lifter if it's something that quiets down - which would be a big deal. Need more info.

Some of the early LS1s had a piston slap on cold startup, first start of the day, then good to go. My 2000 sure had it. Sounded like a damn Cummins diesel for first 40 or 50 seconds!! Only did it when it got colder in Fall weather. I'm talking under maybe 50°. But 2 minutes.....That never happened, and I couldn't tell which side it came from, as it was probably both sides.......

Haha yeah our 2002 Escalade with the 6.0 LQ9 does it really bad on a cold start for like 15-20 seconds, but it's done it since we got it and now at 230k.... meh. It lives. It's annoying though.
