I’m asking for a dear friend of mine. When she came over to my place tonight, the dash light on her 97 C5 were out. Headlights, taillights were all working fine. Also, the lights around the gear shifter also were out. Any ideas on fixing this? Is it a fuse(s) or some relay? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
The C5 has two fuse boxes, one under the hood by the battery, and one in the interior down under the passenger upper floor board. I'm guessing the fuses you are looking for are in the fuse box in the interior.
Did you check the interior dimmer light switch, maybe it's dimmed or off?
Top left corner of dash, same area of heads up display switch if you have that option.

No, I didn’t check that! I think I need to have my brain checked. It’s a lady friend of mine’s car. I’m trying to reach her to try that. I feel pretty stupid for not thinking of that. It would make things a lot easier if that’s all it is!
If it's not a fuse or the dimmer being turned all the way down, it is possible that the backlighting just failed on her instrument cluster. I went through the same thing with my Z06 and was annoying narrowing down the actual issue since mine seemed to be a very uncommon cause. Hopefully it's one of the simple fixes.
Did you fix anything else that night? I could't resist that one haha
No Frank, you are funny though. I can understand how and why you asked that question. She is the daughter of a very good friend of mine and a very good friend herself. Our interests together are Corvettes and racing….only!
