I took an air compressor filter and put it inline b4 the intake...got the idea from the forum.....just wondering if anyone has had a problem as a result of doing this or something similar????
Seems like its catching oil and doin its job....I am surprised at the amount.....seems toooo much to me....I was told by a C5 specialist that its not due to rings.......
On a side note I finished polishing the outside of my throttle body(came out great) and want to share that it is worth while doing if you dont mind some sanding(20 hrs) lol
I've had that mod for a couple of weeks and can't believe how much oil
it traps...about a teaspoon every 4-5 days...on the bright side I just looked
through my throttle body and into the intake, its definitely "drying out" the oil
compared to what was in there before...excellent mod for $15
Ialso did this mod & believe this is best $15 mod everyone should do it in my opinion. I collect a teaspoon of oil about every 300 miles also see some water/condensation in mine. Do you get any condensation?
Marc....Idid not seal the bottom of the can dont think it is necessary. The filter element is 5 micron which I believe is is about equal to a regular oil filter. As long as you keep collecting oil in the can the filter not clogged so I would think you are alright. My mods are mostly cosmetic except for blackwing and pcv.
I've had it on an 03' for 2000 miles and have had less than a teaspoon. I believe I read on the Forum the late models had this problem fixed. Anyone else have this mod on a late model. Any results?
Hello,
I am using paper filters.
For the PCV mod a Fram G3. I change it at the oil changes @ 3,000 miles because of the color change. Not to much oil collected; I would agree with a spoon full, but the filter is dark and dirty.
Also..I added a paper filter a Fram 4164 to the tube on the right side of the throttle body itself. That tube is called the Crank Case Vent hose. This filter changes color every two oil changes @6000 miles.
I put the pvc mod on my 98 several thousand miles ago. At first I checked it, and it had about a teaspoon of oil - cleaned it out, and it still has about a teaspoon of oil after another few thousand miles? I thought it would have more oil in the resevoir now...? Wonder if it sucks up the oil if you let it ....
My mechanic has found several instances where the seal around the PCV system, located under the mainfold valley, have developed leaks and are sucking oil through these seals.

Re: PCV Mod (skidmarc)
I haven't heard of this mod, but it definitely sounds worth doing. What do I purchase and how do I install it? I have a 1998 6-speed with 69,000 miles. Anything I can do to help it along, especially for $15.00,sounds good to me.
Thanks

00 Coupe, been running this mod for about 4 months seem to get more condensation than oil, I took it off to make sure the "O" ring is sealing properly and will be watching carefully. Its winter so not many miles for the next few months. Looks like a great mod for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Vetteboy
Thank you for all the information. I went to that site and got all the information I need. Except....where do I purchase a Campbell Hausfeld MP138? It sounds like a Chicago Pneumatics catalog item, which I no longer receive. Thanks again

C5Noir,
Water collection is strange, only thing i can think of is condensation from
the oil heat but would mean there must be a hair line leak somewhere in the line? but i'm not an engine expert. hope fully an expert will pick up on this post.
Mine collects a ton of water. Anyone know why? I have tested it on 3 LS1s and they all collect the same amount of water regardless of motor mods.
I'm going to venture that the amount of condensation is normal. The crankcase is vented to the atmosphere and a certain amount of moisture is inevitably going to enter. Gases that are purged via the PCV system contain water vapor which, when it hits the cooler PCV tubing condenses into liquid. The filters folks are using for this mod are designed to capture, among other impurities, water.
