Thanks, bit of a dense moment there. That makes sense though

There are "replacement" after market FOBs that claim to be the "updated" or "upgraded" compatible FOBs for 97,98,99,00 but they are typically Taiwanese knock offs and work for a few days or weeks. Then need to be relearned constantly or just fail completely.

Some folks may get lucky with the knock off replacements but seems more end up back at square one.

For 01-04 you are more easily able to find genuine GM OEM remotes at a reasonable cost that work..

I have the lonely 2000. I did the solder fix a couple years ago, worked perfect until I got the car out a month ago.

Case is all busted up, so ordered the OEM part number from GMParts Giant.
10432147

So get an email today, it shipped. Fine print says it was replaced by 19299230

Would have been nice if they asked if that was ok with me. Haven’t read anything good about this superseded part. States it coms from GM Parts Center…..

I had the original 'passive' fobs on my '99 FRC. When those died I got the fobs with no passive switch.
They've worked perfectly for years.

Soldering is #1 easiest and cheapest remedy. When it works. Otherwise finding a used passive FOB is option #2.

Online retailers tend to advertise the 2001 FOB for all years. Which is incorrect.

If you proceed with your Amazon purchase and find that it works...IM me and I'll buy you a beer. Both in NJ so shouldn't be too difficult to make it happen.

My bet is you'll be let down.
Well, I just got my "new" remote from Amazon and it paired right up, first try. I will pass on the beer, but thank you

Does yours?

This part number is on the back of the passive fob

I'm pretty sure there were 3 fobs for the C5.

97-99 with passive switch.
2000-ONLY which is a 1-off piece of ****
01-04 which are the most desirable after an OEM upgrade to the system
Why the bad attitude towards the 2000 only? Mine worked well for 20 years. One still does.......

Excellent! Keep us posted if it stays that way for a few weeks/months.

And I'm serious about that beer. I'm a man of my word. And I'll follow your lead if the FOB continues to function as it should. Plus I get to check your ride out.

Good Day...

@Vader_C5 Me2 I'm following to see how it holds out. I am wondering though if the "passive" feature will work and how far from the vehicle it transmits. I never could understand why GM put a switch on the FOB if only to turn off the passive mode. Cheers!!!

I have not tested the passive feature, so not sure. As far as the range goes, I can stand ~30ft away and it will work, after that it is hit or miss.

Hi. I have a 1999 Coupe. Up until Saturday, my FOB's and TPMS were fine and now both not working. I did little research and think the receiver may be the issue. Anyone have this happen or can confirm as i believe they use the same receiver, thanks.

in in the same boat with my Z06. Fobs not working, new battery, still not working, won't relearn, new fob won't pair. They don't make the receiver anymore you'll have to find a used one.
