I just bought a C5 from previous owner. From the 1st day, I noticed that when I let out in 1st gear from a stop, the whole car shudders bad. I try to find the magic rpm range to avoid that, but it does that from low to mid-range RPMS. If I launch it hard, I don't notice it.
I know it's an after market clutch, but I don't know more than that. My previous SS Camaro had a 3 disc clutch, and it was smooth as silk. My C5 has a big cam; I'm not sure if that's a factor. Also, stock rear end gear.
Yeah "stage 3 clutch" is pretty vague. My guess would be an uneven flywheel surface. Sounds like no matter what clutch is in there, the only solution will be clutch replacement...
If you want to at least assess the clutch situation, you can remove the midpipes fairly easily, and then drop the clutch inspection cover. This will give you a good look at the clutch and slave cylinder. (I'm assuming there aren't long tube headers in the way since they're not listed on the mods sheet)

Yeah, that fact sheet wasn't complete from he previous owner. It does have long tube headers. Time to take it to the shop? An clutch ideas that won't break the bank? I'm at 475 rwhp and I want to add a 100 wetshot.
I had an aftermarket clutch installed before supercharging my 97 coupe, I have to take it out a few times a year and do a few high rpm clutch dumps, it really helps quite the clutch and eliminates the shudder for a couple of months.

I'm going to try that, because I don't have 2 grand for a new clutch. Ouch.

I tried it and it 75% worked!!! There is still some shudder, but not as bad. Where did you learn this trick? I also learned that these MT RADIALS HOOK. I dumped the clutch at 5k and she jumped! very little wheelspin at all.
Some higher horsepower rated clutch disks tend to have a glaze build up on the surface of the disk, I belive it was here on the forum that I learned about this.

Thank you. Is this why a 5k clutch dump cleans up the glaze? The C5 is better, but with still a little shudder. Not as much. More 5k clutch dumps?
The 5k clutch dumps only help to some point, you may have Hotspots on the flywheel and maybe some distortion of the clutch disk, also factor in how it was driven by po.
