recently purchased a 1999 Convertible and every time I start the car, I get the charge system fault message. Th e alternator shows less than 12 and after a minute or two it all corrects, lite off and gauge reads approx. 13. Haven't checked OBD yet and just wondering if anyone has seen this on their car
There is sticky at the top of the page that includes sources for the proper parts for rebuilding. New replacements are pricey if you can find them. Use the dic to read the codes. The dic will give you more information than an obd scanner. A dying battery can sometimes set this code so I would check that first. It is not hard to a rebuild and at least the alternator is easy to get at.
It has a new battery and the fault goes away after about 1-2 minutes and gauge reads 13 or so. On start with fault it shows around 10? While driving it is no issue! strange
no codes! Light comes on at start,1 or2 minutes and gauge returns to normal 13+ and light goes off. Going to clean up battery post and alternator connections and see what happens. Belt is newer
My '04 Vert occasionally does the same dance (no codes) since I owned it, 6+ years. I just chalk it up to another electrical anomaly gremlin that is part of owning a C5.
