Ok, installed the TTS headers on a Z06. The headers made contact on the passenger side aluminum cross arm. According to TTS and LAPD remove material until it stops. I have 1/4" clear, and it still makes contact on slight left turn. I have posted before and David F suggested tighter motor mounts.
The mounts look great, but $295.00 more and ? Anybody else had these same problems? I am ready to pull these things off and S--Can them :U
No problems c the TTS here. Give it a little more time - I think they're good equipment. As suggested, maybe MattG can be of some help when he spies this post. Good luck, man. :chevy
Hmmm I have never heard of such a problem with TTS headers.. You say you got them from LAPD, are you sure they are not TPIS headers? I have just seen quite a few people get some of these acronyms mixed up, TTS, TPIS, etc..
I am not sure what to tell you other than maybe return the one that is rubbing and get another one.. It sounds like there may be a manufacturing defect or one of the tubes are bent wrong, etc.
I barely clear the aluminum cross member on the passenger side with my TTS long tubes. I have checked it from time to time and it seems to be OK. It appears that it may barely touch under hard acceleration.
did u end up getting the Install Instructions (Word DOC file)? maybe they would help somwhat. They are great instruction supplied by Exit28 and I believe originally put together by a forum member, 4 pages long!!!
If you dont, i can send it to you, just email me if you like.
I installed the TTS headers when they first came out. They are really close on the passenger side. About 1/8" gap. I took a dremel tool and cut some of the aluminum away to gain a little more clearance.
I did the same. Removed about 1/4" from the aluminum A frame. Still hits on left turn under acceleration. Im going to take a little more off and that's it.
I like the headers but still need the rest to make it work
Ditto on clearancing the passenger side header. I'm not aware of anybody that resolved it using a torque strap or solid mount.
There's an interesting motor mount thread or two at LS1Tech.com but I'm not sure how applicable it is to C5s. It caught my attention as I've been thinking about solid mounts for a while.
