It is easy to remove the complete vent and install a new one ? It is easy to put the new one back ? I don't want to connect the hose to the vent I just want to replace the whole vent any idea ?
Another question is are the drain and the fill plug are the same or different thread ?

Please update your profile with the model year car you have to include wether it's an auto or manual trans as there ar difference between all model years...
For the 1997 thru 2002, the fill and drain plugs are the same item/part number.

The differential vent is pressed in to the case, very difficult to remove while the differential is installed in the car...after looking at your photo, just make sure the cap on the top of the vent is loose and rattles but you can't remove the cap by hand.

Cheers,
Goose

Thanks for updating your profile as this will be helpful in the future.
So the top vent it's loose and you telling me it's better to leave it alone>> Yes, if the top cap is loose, it is normal, leave it alone.
My car 2003 automatic so still we don't know if it's the plugs are the same or no for differential>> for your 2003, the differntial fill and drain plugs are the same.

Here are a couple of how to videos for referernce purposes...

In my opinion, it's not possible to replace the entire diff vent valve while the differential is installed in the car; the differential needs to be removed for good access. In fact, you can't really see the vent valve while the diff is installed, you need a mirror to help see it.

My diff's vent valve was "loose", and diff leaked. You can take it apart so that the spring, diaphragm, and cap can be replaced while the diff is in the car (not easy, but I did it). After doing this on mine, the diff still leaked (new valve components were "loose"). Only thing that stopped the diff leaking for me was an open vent line, unfortunately. I wasted a lot of time and money coming to that conclusion.

I was able to pop off the vent cap and then attach a 6 inch hose with a new vent. Not easy but doable.
That resolved my vent leak issue.

Interesting, so you're doing a sort of remote vent valve. Do you think it was just that your old valve went bad? I can imagine you did it this way to avoid removing the diff to replace the vent, but I also wonder if there's a side benefit to having it remote...
Is your new vent vertical like the stock diff location?

It was wet on top by the vent, gear oil was in a valley by the vent that it could only come from there so that is why I did it.

I realized that I would not be able to press the new vent in without removing the rear so I did it this way. It is not vertical, I attached the new vent hose it to another line near it so it has a slight bent.
The hardest part was getting a small clamp to fit snug on the vent tube on top of the rear.

Good info!

Same here. For my breather hose I've had good luck with a "fuel injection hose clamp", of which I had a set with various sizes already on-hand.

So whats the downside if you dont use the sealant? I dont believe I did that when I fixed mine and its not leaking at the moment. About 3200 miles on it since repair.

A friend and I resealed both of the side covers yesterday using the 2 videos linked about. The stud came out with 2 nuts on it. We reinstalled the same stud.

NO! ! ! ! Off hand I think it's 18#. 37# is for the 2 halves of the diff carrier inside the case. You WILL strip the side cover bolts at 37#.
