The receiver shown in that picture i attached above is located behind a panel directly above the rear tire hump and behind the rear window support.
2 or 3 panels need to be removed starting from rear panel.
I got the tps service message a few days ago. My dic only displayed "xxx". I took a magnet, placed the car into "tire learning" mode and startint at the drivers front tire held the magnet over the tire valve for about 5 seconds until the horn honked. Then went around clockwise for each tire. Now the warning is gone and I get actual tire pressure numbers.
I also did a fob learn yesterday for a 2nd fob I bought. Are you holding the lock/unlock buttons for at least 15 seconds? Tha's how long I held mine down.
I know this is old now, but the issue has been determined. The receiver is bad and needs to be replaced. When the shop finally got to it, it was actually broken off of the harness and just sitting in the bay where it is located. It doesn't have any power to it and a new one was ordered. 2001 they switched to a new receiver, which is more than double the cost of the receiver in the 97-2000 models and much more difficult to find. My shop could only find ONE from any reputable business that he trusts to purchase used parts from.
Should have it in and running within a week or two, and it should also take care of the service tire pressure sensor message that I'm getting, since both the key fob and TPMS readings are related through the same receiver.
It shows moved to C5 tech but I don't find the subject there. I had two fobs I got from Amazon matched to my C5, but after disconnecting the battery I'm stuck at the same place you are or were. I get to FOB training and the hold LCK & UNLCK point but then nothing happens when I hold lock and unlock.

What year is your C5 and what fobs did you get from Amazon?
They were like $95 a pop. Had no problem matching them originally. I didn't drive the car for a couple months which isn't unusual, so I've got a battery disconnect switch installed. Car fired right up and has no other issues. Tried to match the transmitters again tonight and can't get past the lock/unlock stage.
