At about 40k. I have a 98. Not a tough job to replace the O ring, but it will take about 3 hours going slow and easy. Make sure you use a gasket sealant(silicone or anaerobic) along with a new o ring and new shaft seal.
I've seen lots of posts of leaks at 10k or less. The original rear in my '98 never leaked, the Getrag 3.73 rear started at about 6k. (Shaft seal leak.) Go figure...
My left side began to leak at 6k and was replaced 3 times. The fourth
attempt replaced the whole differential and appears to have worked.
Been 7,000 miles since replacement with no leaks.
