Default Another limp C5

Mechanic has had my 2003 Anni coupe for 8 weeks and thousands of $$$, but still unable to get her out of Reduced Engine Power mode. The throttle body and pedal position sensors have been replaced. Codes thrown yesterday (when I went to pick her up): P1125 - TP/APP Sensor Circuit Problem and P1286 - APP Sensor 3 Circuit Performance. Any suggestions from the Forum? I, too, may have reached the end of my budget and may consider putting her up for sale. 135K miles, manual, 2 tops. I'd prefer to get her back on the road, though.

Got this from an old Johnny Hardcore post

had reduced power occur due to a frayed wire in the passenger side door loom causing a short.
Maybe check the driver's door??

It's not a door wiring problem throwing those codes.

Might want to check this out even thought he had a different code.

The APP communicates with the TAC (Throttle Actuator Control) module before a signal is sent to the throttle body. It's mounted to the PCM and is located behind the passenger side wheel well. Check the wiring there.

This is a long read with a TON of information pertaining to electrical and ground issues that cause "limp mode" to occur. As mentioned above my issue was caused by frayed wires in the passenger door loom. My car threw 15 or more codes when this occured. Which codes they were I don't recall. My car acted like it was possessed when I had the issue.

Courtesy of Bill Curlee...this thread provides many reccomended steps to take to trouble shoot "limp mode". Including TAC replacement, cleaning grounds, wire looms in doors etc.. Good luck!

I would also suggest a new mechanic if he can’t test parts he is replacing to know if they are really bad he is just wasting your money. You will spend less in the long run with a qualified mechanic that knows his way around proper diagnostics.

Yes! Thank you! I sent this to my mechanic. I think these are the next steps to take.

This is a multi-generation Corvette mechanic who has taken care of my car for the last 15 years. When he said: "I just don't know what else to do" is when I began my Forum inquiry. I wish I had consulted you guys weeks and $$$ sooner.

but he is replacing parts not knowing if they are bad. If he is not able to run basic diagnostics and resistance checks on parts he is not a mechanic he is a qualified parts changer. Or in other words his reputation is better than his results. It is inexcusable to throw parts at a car to the point that the customer is considering selling the car because the guy can’t diagnose.
