Fuel Pump Replacement Question
My question is regarding the quick connect fuel line near the bottom on the tank; how to disconnect this as there is not enough room to get the disconnect tool into the fitting as there as the line diameter increases just after the fitting, the pictures show this....hopefully. Just not able to just slide the release tool inside the fitting.
Is there a different way to compress the four spots inside the fitting to get it to release? I do have a smaller plastic disconnect tool that fits inside the fitting, but it is too short to push against the four tabs inside the fitting.
Good thing they are cheap.
Going to try making a "tool" out of some sheet metal today or get out my grinder.
Thanks.
2. With the copper piece inside the connector, put the plastic disconnect tool on, then pushed this with the hope that it would go under the copper and lift it up. It did, but the plastic tool was not long enough.
3. Got the 3/8" disconnect tool back out. Saw the fix. Separate the two halves of the disconnect tool. Took me 10min to get that blasted C clip out that held the two halves together. Put one half on, pushed into connector. Put other half on, pushed into connector. Then using some needle nose pliers, pushed both halves further into connector and...."Houston we have separation!!!"
Now if only the GM parts would arrive so I could put my fuel tank back in.........going to be another week yet....

The ring that holds the fuel pump to the fuel tank.....does the inside rim go down against the fuel pump housing, or does this rim go up?
I did not take notice when I removed it.
Thanks
