First time poster. Was wondering if someone could tell me an easy way to disable the headlight motors on my C5 Z06?
Right now, I'm having issues with the motors and know they are bad. One side works but makes that horrible grinding sound, the other side closes but opens about half the time. It's getting pretty cold here in NJ and I just want to manually open the lights and keep them open for now without having to manually open them each time.
Is there a fuse or a wire harness disconnect? If you can please show me any pics or a video on this so I know I'm doing it right, I'd so appreciate it. I'm not a mechanic or anything and have limited tools, so I don’t want to dive into the motor fix at this time. Thank you for any help in advance.
There are fuses for the hi and low beams, but the motors are fed by a Headlight Actuator module and a relay I believe (smart guys will correct me)
Some good info here
Your owners manual gives instructions. Here are the instructions on how to manually open the headlight doors from my '04 manual.
Headlamps Doors
The headlamp doors are designed to open when you
turn the headlamps on, and close when you turn
the headlamps and parking lamps off. If you turn the
headlamps on, then turn back to the parking lamps
setting, the headlamp doors will stay open.
You can open the doors manually using the ****
next to the headlamp assembly. Turn the ****
counterclockwise until the doors are open. Turn the
**** clockwise to close the doors manually.
The headlamp doors should be open when driving in icy
or snowy conditions to prevent the doors from freezing
closed and when washing the vehicle to help clean
the headlamps.
Notice: If the hood comes into contact with the
headlamp doors when you raise the hood, you could
damage the hood and/or the headlamp doors.
Always close the headlamp doors before opening
the hood.

After you manually open them pull the fuses for the motors, they are in the underhood fuse box. I believe fuse 6 and 7 but don't quote me on that, the underside of the lid has the diagram of what fuse protects what circuit. I had mine pulled for the same reason you have. I just replaced my motors and lights, plugged the fuses back in.

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you (and everyone else) so much for the quick and informative replies.
According to the schematic, it should be fuse #3 & #4
Just look at the Fuse lay out legend on the fuse box lid and look for HDLP MOT LH & HDLP MOT RH. Those will be the fuses you need

Yea, #3 and #4. That's what I meant to say, lol. Thanks for the correction Sir.
All good, you got me in the ballpark. When I saw Bill's post, I was under the hood checking out what you told me. I saw the fuses were 3 and 4 and his message confirmed what my schematic said. So it's all good....you all have been so helpful here. Thank you so much!!
