If you are going to be doing balancer work, here are a few tips that I have found very handy:
Use a propane torch or a heat gun and heat the INNER HUB of the dampener that goes over the crank snout to aid in removal and reinstallation. Just heat it up to 200-225 degrees or so. It will come off and go on a WHOLE LOT EASIER!
The Autozone near me rents the dampener removal and install tool. They also rent the 0-150 FT/LB torque wrench if you dont have one.
I use the ARP Dampener Bolt. Its a no brainer verses the OEM Torque To Yield bolt that MUST be replaced after each use.
Make sure that you replace that nasty old hard front cover dampener seal.
should I do my own harmonic balancer repair or a shop?
