Default Harmonic balancer

I'm putting a new ATI harmonic damper on My '01 convertible. I'm installing a ATI 917-266 which is aluminum not steel will this make a difference.

ATI is a widely used balancer, shouldn't be an issue.

If you are going to be doing balancer work, here are a few tips that I have found very handy:

Use a propane torch or a heat gun and heat the INNER HUB of the dampener that goes over the crank snout to aid in removal and reinstallation. Just heat it up to 200-225 degrees or so. It will come off and go on a WHOLE LOT EASIER!

The Autozone near me rents the dampener removal and install tool. They also rent the 0-150 FT/LB torque wrench if you dont have one.

I use the ARP Dampener Bolt. Its a no brainer verses the OEM Torque To Yield bolt that MUST be replaced after each use.
Make sure that you replace that nasty old hard front cover dampener seal.

Just remember the torque value varies based on if you use moly, loctite, or oil.
