Default 2004 z06 p0343

108k miles, never had any major issues with drivetrain. Just replaced cracked radiator and only mod is a Callaway cold air intake. Was out and about when getting back in trying to crank and she wouldn’t turn over. Waited a few minutes, started her up and drove a couple miles straight home. Looking things up it seems as though the P0343 code could be loose cam bolts or the cam position sensor is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

Any insight on the code problem would be appreciated.

Also, I have a leak in my head gaskets and I’m thinking I will probably replace them while I have the manifold taken off. So again any insight as to what I might need to go ahead and replace while I’m in there, or even a “how to” would be awesome! Thanks guys!

There's a seal on the sensor that can fail and it will get oil all over itself and the back of the motor and fail eventually. My car only had 62k miles when I had the motor out and it was leaking really bad (couldn't see until the motor was out). Very well cared for car. I'd start by replacing the $66 cam sensor which comes with a new seal as those are known failures on these cars.

"Crank" and "Turn over" are the same thing.

Loose cam retainer plate bolts are unlikely for a stock car. As already mentioned inspect the sensor area for leaks and wiring condition. Replace sensor as required....it's cheap.

What are the symptoms here? Coolant in oil? Loss of compression? Over-heating?

Could be a Cam Sensor or the wiring…sensor is a 3 wire Hall Effect Sensor…12 volt power, signal and a sensor ground…a scan tool and a 12 volt test light would be the best way to check the wiring.
