I've got a 2002 Coupe and recently started throwing codes for the charge system. Narrowed it down to the alternator and something with the ripple volts. I'm just unsure as to what alternator I should go with. I know these cars are picky about what alternator they get and I've seen posts where people have a hard time with it, I'm curious if anyone has any insight or leads. Is it as simple as picking a new one with the same Volt and amp ratings?
Current Alternator - #2541926 B from Valero out of France.
Rated at 110 amps and 14 volts
The alternator is more than a little picky. It’s all documented in the sticky below, but the long story a little shorter is you need the same Valeo spec alternator. The primary recommendation is always that you start by finding a local shop to rebuild your existing unit.
That said, while I have not tried one I do see that Napa lists a Valero alternator specific to C5 variants. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...nd-issues.html

Who diagnosed the car ??…take the car to a starter/alternator rebuild shop and they can probably repair it…probably just needs a diode if your ripple voltage is too high.
It's has a clutch so it's better for SC applications and higher RPM use. Occasionally I'll get a DIC for charge fault but it clears. They look great too.
