I've been having traction issues since getting my car back from Speed Demon. If I nail the pedal under 50mph, my rear end wants trade places with the front  I almost lost it this afternoon. Good thing noone was around or I probably would have hit someone as I ended up in the other lane!!!
I haven't had an opportunity to go to the drag strip yet, but now I'm curious and concerned. Since I only have street tires (S-02 Pole positions) I assume turning traction control off and nailing the pedal will result in me hitting the wall! :banghead:
How are you guys getting traction??? Are you lightly applying the gas until you reach 50+mph and then nail it? Manually rowing your gears in the slush box??
I'm sure Nitto DR or ET Streets would help, but other than that, what can I do? Especially for the street???
Advice is much appreciated before I end up in a ditch!
Heads & Cam + Headers + bolt-ons + street tires + 5000 rpm clutch drop = massive burn out right??? WRONG!!!
If you see this video, my car actually bogged...
Reson: Las Vegas Motor Speedway was prepped very well and my street tires are Kuhmo MX. Keep in mind that Kuhmo tires are not Drag Radials, not Auto Cross Racing tires, they are just sticky street tires.
The best part is that they cost $160 a pop for the rear tires.
Now if you do that on the streets, you will get a massive burnout. Best launch at the street for me is to launch at around 3000 rpm and slipping the clutch a little...
Well, for the track I suppose I will go with the ET Streets. Will wait until they come out with the 17's though.
My main concern is traction on the street. I have no traction in 1st or 2nd. Tires break loose, and I can also make the rear end wiggle like Shakira.
I guess the only thing I can do is add wider tires for the rear. I have the Z06 rims on my '98 and run S-02 Pole Position 295/35 in the rears. I looked at the Nitto 555R but the size they have in 18 is the 305/45....too tall I think.
What can I use on the rear without tubbing???
You guys CAN'T be running DR's or ET Streets all the time, especially on the streets!
I realize that I don't have anywhere near the HP you are making with your upgrades, but you might want to consider getting your alignment checked.
This may be way off base in relation to your car, but I was having some problems keeping my car straight when lighting up the rears. The car would dance one way and then the other until I had to put the clutch back in to prevent my car from jumping off the road or smacking the curb. This was something that seemed to be gradually getting worse over time.
Anyway, I took the car into the shop (friend's place) and put the car up on the lift to check the alignment. Both fronts were off quite a bit and the left rear was off as well. Went ahead and fixed the alignment and now the car behaves much better and does a much better job of staying pointed straight.
Won't help your traction problem - but it may allow you to enjoy the problem a little more... :steering:
DOH!!! Sorry about that one. :smash: :smash: :jester
Get some Pilot Sports on there. They are one of the best tires that I have EVEN used for every day use. They are great stright line and even handle like a champ in pouring down rain. :yesnod: :yesnod:
That's a good suggestion. My ride height has been changed three times since my last alignment. Lowered, then raised a little, and then raised a little more....
I had thought about getting wider tires, however, I have 295/35 S-02 Pole Positions on the rears now, and this tire is equivalent to many 315/35 tires out there... maybe I'll have to consider a mini-tub.... :skep:
