The final solution to my oil in the intake tract problem appears to be converting to the late Z06-style PCV setup. Two questions: what parts do I need, and will the Z06 valley cover fit on my C5R block ( I realize that it won't work on the LS1 block without machining).

1) You will need the LS6 intake valley cover and the LS6 pcv pipe.
2) The older LS1 blocks had a extra casting area which gets in the way of that LS6 oil catcher, which is underneath the intake valley cover. We used a dremel and hack saw to cut the area. It wasn't too hard.
I can send you some pictures from my install on my '98 LS1 block.
