My Corvette is in need of an upgraded fuel pump. In-line booster or replace the in-tank pump? How hard is it to upgade the in-tank pump on a C5 'vette (coupe style)?
My stock pump at 64,000 miles seems a little on the weak side. That's the reason for the upgrade, and the Lingenfelter one looks like the best bet. $300 isn't a bad price, either.
Does anyone know of any good FAQs on how to replace the fuel pump in a C5. It appears to be a simple bolt-on affair. I know you must remove one of the rear wheels and jack up the rear of the C5 to get to the in-tank pump. No tank removal/drop is necessary. Just need some pictures and a few specifics before we undertake this upgrade.
You ought to check out the Racetronix setup. It is a completely bolt in pump including the wiring harness and all. 600+ RWHP should not be a problem with this pump setup either.
Let me know if you need one. We have a shipment of them on the way to our shop. They run $299.95.
If you have any more questions about the pump, let me know. I would be happy to help.
:yesnod:
I hear that the fuel pump on the C5 is accessible via one of the rear wheel wells. Which one? Has anyone written a FAQ on it? The pump is a little on the weak side, so as soon as I have a FAQ and a vendor with a fuel pump on hand, its go time. Can't make power if you don't have fuel.
I've admired your white drop-top 'vette for a few months now. Very nice. I looked at going the Aeromotive route, but I don't know if I want the hassle of an in-line pump when just replacing the in-tank pump should provide enough fuel for my plans. Most of the in-tanks are rated around 600HP. Wish I could find one that puts out closer to 700HP worth of fuel.
I understand your thoughts on this issue. The LPE unit is clean and it works. This was the one I went with to provide the fuel I needed. Best of luck to you in your mod decisions. :)
Well I'm back with more questions. I've noticed alot of these in-tank pumps are going for $300 or so. Many of my friends have pointed out that some 255gph pumps are going for less than that. Is there anything special about C5 Corvette applications that drives the price up somewhat?
The Racetronix pump comes with an upgraded harness and a drain kit. I sell the Racetronix 10 to 1 over the Aeromotive. I've taken pictures of the install and made sort of an instuction sheet to go with it.
How much more challenging would it be to install the Aeromotive 1000 HP supporting in-line pump instead of going with a regular in-tank pump from LPE, Racetronix, or others?
I've been debating this fuel upgrade for quite some time also. After reading all the posts I called Andy today and ordered the racetronics with his install instructions. I'll be installing as soon as it gets here and post on the install.
Andy sures sounds like he goes out of his way to help us do it yourselfers  Thanks Andy.
