Howdy, I have a shift light and a NX kit sitting in my garage so I decided to put it in the car while it is down for the broken RK sport header. When I was searching the forum for the shift light instructions, I found posts people tap in to a wire by the passenger foot well. When I was looking for info in the Window Switch, people were tapping into the wire by PCM. Is there a difference? Can't I tap the same wire by the passenger footwell?
Also, how do I test which wire is the tach wire?
On my 99 it was the white wire pin #10 on the PCM. The PCM is located right under the passenger footwell, behind the front tire, so maybe thats what they meant. I tapped the wire right at the PCM for my MSD switch, then was able to just tap off that wire for my shift light.
P.S. what happened to your RK header? I just installed them on mine :(
After about 6 months, the small air tube for the A.I.R system broke off from the weld. The broken weld is on the driver side back. So it is very close to the brake system, firewall, and bunch of other stuff. Can't weld it back with the header in the car. So I took it out and send it my friend's shop to fix. To prevent future problems, he is going to cut it off and cap it. So instead of having exhaust from 3 tubes combining and going to the AIR flange, it will only have 2 tubes going to the flange. I totally don't like the design aspect of that part, it blocks the spark plugs and the weld breaks easily. I am not the first nor will be the last to break that weld.
I found mine in the passenger foot area. remove the panel that is underneath your glove box. You will see a HUGE wire harness (the biggest one). There are five white wires in that harness. Two are medium size and three are very thin. The one you want is one of the three thin white wires. There are instruments that will let you test for a tach signal - I just used trial and error. Some people have suggested using a needle and aligator clips instead of partially stripping each wire to find out which one carries the tach signal.
We should definately hook up some time - the same for Don, the sig picasso - he is here in town also - talked to him on the forum and by e-mail, but never met him either.
I just got back from my father's auto repair shop. Needed to use one of his racks. I pulled my hiflo cats off for the race on Saturday (West Coast Corvette Challenge). Are you going?
Maybe one of the following weekends I can swing by and help you find the white wire.
