Default Rear differential

Hello all I have a 2000 C5 with automatic trans and the car is leaking atf between the diff and transmission onto the leaf spring. What’s the cause and would I be able to buy a 3 rib 3:42 diff out of a manual car and replace the current 2:73s in mine?

The output shaft in the tranny is probably the leak. A 3:42 diff is a bolt in swap, but you will need a tune to adjust for the gear change.

I had a shop install an RPM stage 2 differential with 3.73 gears and YankSS 3200 stall. I’m not buying used stuff for my C5 that I have no history on how it was treated. If you have a lot of miles on the car you might want to do a torque tube rebuild and a shifter cable. It’s not going to be cheap, but buy once, cry once, and be done with it.

3.73’s are an awesome stoplight to stoplight gear, if you know what I mean. 1st gear only goes up to about 35mph and 2nd gear about 75mph.

so basically I need a output shaft seal for the trans and 3:42s I think is the way to go. I have hp tuner for it so I’m pretty confident I can tune the trans. Thank you for the reply!

Seeing you have to pull the diff to replace the seal it is a good time to regear. I just finished this job on my 2000, again seeing you're going to have to pull the exhaust, cradle, tunnel plate, etc you might want to replace the shift cable bushings while in there.
