As many here know, I have a 2000 C5 Vert. A few years ago my tonneau cover wouldn't release some of the time. I bought a new release button, and it seemed to help some. Fast forward 3 or 4 years, and now I have to use the cable to release the cover. Since the button is relatively new, I'm assuming that the issue is in the electric release. I've tried moving the cover by hand, up and down, thru it's range of motion while holding the button down, hoping this might make it work, which would indicate a broken wire. But it makes no difference. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there something I can clean or adjust in the release? How did you fix it? I'm pretty good mechanically, but somewhat challenged with electronics Thank you, guys....
I had this issue, but in the end, it turned out to be that my fuse box (interior) was corroded from water intrusion (previous owner. and the car was bought nonworking.)
C5diag Rob went out of his way to help me on this, and I still owe him a bottle for it.
Do you hear anything when you press the yellow button?
Have you checked the fuse and relay associated with this?
Have you tried jump-in button?
Are your windows lowering when you press this button?
Don't know about the windows. But I opened the trunk, then tried to open the tonneau. I know this wont work, as they both can't be open at the same time. I was listening for the warning bell to ring 3 times, and it did. So that tells me the button is working, because of the warning jingle. But it seldom works anymore.....
OK. The windows don't go down, but there's a soft, slight tapping sound that seems to come from the passenger side near the dash or front of the seat. If I put the key in, the windows still don't go down. On one try I turned the key on, then off, and "woke" up the modules. Then the windows went down, but cover stayed shut. On one try the tonneau worked and the windows went down. Frustrating......
There are no codes. However, I found the "problem." The relay for it is in the passenger footwell (thanks a bunch, GM!). I unplugged the relay and reinserted it a couple of times. Works every time now. I've found the same thing in TV remote controls. Sometimes spinning the AA or AAA batteries makes a new, clean connection, and they work fine afterwards. Thanks to the guys who tried to help me out.
Uh.....Yeah, after you contort yourself getting to the footwell fuse box. I'd like to take the engineer that placed the fuse box there out fishing. On Lake Superior. Alone. Then help him find the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. He'd go in first, of course.....
